Lies Lies Lies

One of the main problems I have with the net, and society at large, is the blatant lack of honesty. Political Correctness has ruined everything. Hurting someone's feelings is likened unto physical violence. Everyone walks around on egg shells, or makes excuses for their opinions by calling them humor or claiming that they were misunderstood while backpedaling furiously.

It's as if your intentions are more important than your actions. Well, I have news for you, intentions are a hell of a lot easier to fake than actions are to cover up; and thus much less reliable when judging someone's true character. It is for this reason that I put little stock in the disclaimer's of sites that insult people as "humour". It's one thing to satirize something or someone who is well known, or to poke fun at your friends; but making fun of someone whom you don't know well at all is something else entirely.

I'm not saying that it's necessarily wrong to insult those you don't know. I'd be quite hypocritical to do so, in fact I think that it's a good way to teach someone a lesson about how to look at themselves more objectively. Learning to laugh at yourself, however, is a difficult lesson to learn from harsh critics you have no acquaintance with, and those critics should be willing to accept responsibility for this.

If you are going to be a bitch, be honest about it. The little white lie has become a rather cumbersome white elephant; in the process most people seem to have lost the guts to face the truth of their own opinions and accept the consequences of expressing them. If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all... or be willing to defend yourself and have people with hurt feelings. It is that simple.
